Steps to Become a LVN

This complete guide will help you attain your goals to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse, or sometimes called a Licensed Practical Nurse. Learn about the requirements it takes to get into the LVN college of your choice and resources to help you get there.

Steps to get into LVN College

There are a few requirements you must complete prior to applying to LVN colleges.


LVN Exam

You must take and pass the NCLEX Examination. For LVNs or LPNs the test is called the NCLEX-PN, or National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses. This test will evaluate your competence of nursing abilities. The test is a computerized adaptive test administered by Pearson VUE. Find out more information about the NCLEX-PN.

LVN Licensing

You must apply for a license in the state that you are going to be working in. This sometimes requires an additional fee, and also may require you to have your fingerprints taken.

LVN CMEs

Most healthcare workers have to complete continuing medical education hours to keep their licenses current. LVNs have to complete CMEs as well.
